I am Someone’s Shot of Whiskey

Hello and welcome to season 1, episode 1 of Someone’s Shot Of Whiskey. I am so excited. I know it doesn’t seem like it guys, but I’ve literally had to rerecord this intro so many times because I get so excited and then my hands start going. It’s just, it’s really bad. This podcast is a true labor of love. It is something that I have wanted to do for quite some time and very excited to bring it to fruition. I’m so excited to share all of the incredible cohost AKA guests that I will have on season one of this podcast. However, before we get into what you can expect from this podcast, and I kind of tease you guys with some of the guests that are coming on, I want to quickly give a rundown of who I am, what I stand for and why I felt the need to bring this podcast to life.

So first up, who am I? I am a lifestyle content creator and blogger based out of North Carolina. Though I am originally from Connecticut. Yes, I am a mother and a wife. I’m a daughter youngest in the family, a total brat, a friend and aunt and all around I’m just a person. Honestly, I’m just a girl who had a dream and decided to go after it. So obviously going after one stream looks different for everybody. And I will have an episode where I specifically talk about that. But just a quick overview about that portion of my life. Up until recently, I did have a job in corporate America working nine to five, obviously in the pandemic or working from home. And it took that for me to realize this is not what I want to be doing at 30. I want to pursue my dreams.

And so I decided to add another layer to my brand in the form of podcasting because reaching audiences and speaking to people behind the scenes, it’s really something that I enjoy doing. And I can do it kind of behind the scenes, on a podcast with my mic in my kitchen, still in my PJ’s. So hence the birth of someone’s shot of whiskey. So I’m sure some of you are why name it, someone shot of whiskey and why should I tune it? Let’s tackle the first question.

One of the most iconic lines from Carrie Bradshaw, which is the main character/protagonists of sex in the city, is I’d rather be someone’s shot of whiskey than everyone’s cup of tea. I want a thousand percent agreed. In a time where social media is really connected to people’s mental health and honestly the downward spiral of it. I truly feel like this is now more than ever, is a time where we have to show up as our true selves. No one wants to get on social media anymore and see a perfectly curated feed. No one wants to hear how great everyone’s life is. We want to see the real stuff. You know, we want to see a mix of the good stuff and the bad. We want to see the flowers and you being planted. We don’t just want to see the end product. And that is something that I live by truly it is.

I try and show up everywhere that I am as my true, authentic self. And I try and share the good and the bad. So when trying to find a title for the podcast, I literally just started thinking of stuff. And I was like, oh my God, someone’s shot of whiskey. I know I am not everyone’s cup of tea, but I rather be someone shot of whiskey. That’s my tribe. Those are my people.

Now to the question of why should I even tune into this podcast? Honestly that question or rather that answer is going to be different for everyone. But my hope is that everyone leaves this podcast after listening to it with some sort of value, I’m not always going to add value to your personal life. Someone on the podcast might be speaking about a business decision and it adds value to your career. But overall, I always want to add value to your life and not take it away. Life lessons, we don’t get to choose all of them. Some of them we do, some things we walk into knowingly knowing it’s not good for us. Other things we walk into knowingly knowing that it is good for us, but ultimately we don’t get to choose all of them.

However, we do get to choose what we leave those lessons with. One lesson I personally had to really learn and lean into was stopped being a people pleaser. As much of an alpha female that I am. I was such a people pleaser. You know, I just felt bad. I never wanted to upset anyone. I never want to hurt anybody’s feelings. And I think a lot of that came from me being very sensitive myself but I really had to learn again with the title of the podcast that it’s okay to be someone shot of whiskey and not everyone’s cup of tea. I will get into the backstory of my life, but I was engaged four different times. I broke off every single engagement myself. My last engagement was my now husband. And even in the sense of that, I kept trying to be everyone’s cup of tea instead of just being someone’s shot of whiskey and knowing that I’m not going to mess with everybody.

And that’s okay. There are people out there who are specifically meant for me, there’s a tribe that is specifically meant for me. This podcast is really made for anyone who wants to be successful in life, but doesn’t want to do it with anyone else’s blueprint. I saw a podcast title that’s called you print, not blueprint. And it spoke to me because I was like, oh my gosh, that’s amazing. This is what we are about. We are about creating a community for you, with your tribe, where you don’t have to worry about being everything for everybody. Showing up unapologetically within my career has really opened some incredible doors and given me some pretty awesome opportunities, from being able to be a guest on the critically acclaimed influencer podcast with Julie Solomon to being featured in a national article with Buzzfeed. But in my personal life, showing up unapologetically has really taught me to create boundaries.

It has taught me to pursue my dreams. It has taught me to be honest with myself, and it has really taught me and pushed me to put myself first. And the co-host that I have coming on the podcast this season are no different. They are the movers and shakers within their fields, but more importantly, I think they are pros at showing up unapologetically and authentically on and offline. From former miss Arizona USA turned CEO of more than Inc, to content creator and corporate Facebook employee, majesty a champion, to confidence Crusader and designer and creator of the first ever most size inclusive, Amazon the drop line, Carolyn Mirand, to TikTok sensation and activist Cameron Davis. The lineup is so diverse.

So if you want to learn how to show up unapologetically, if you just need a pep talk from your virtual BFF. If you want to know what it looks like in influencer marketing behind the scenes, if you’re just looking for a couple of business tricks and tips, or you want to hear from some pretty bad-ass and inspiring guests, stick around for the first season of someone shot of whiskey. Cause I’m going to tell you guys, this is podcasting unscripted, but listen, we are spilling the tea and sipping the whiskey.
