Top Nail Trends in 2021

I LOVE a nice manicure and/or a full set. Got change things up ya know? As such, I always make sure to leave space in my budget every month so I can keep my fingers looking fresh! My husband says my budget is excessive simply for my nails…but he just doesn’t understand. 😂

I’m in and out of the salon so often, I’ve started to pick up on how the trends change throughout the year. Sometimes, I stick with what’s popular but other times I like to go against the grain. We all need a little neon pick-me-up by the time January rolls around, right??

Fall may be my favorite season for trendy drinks and food. I am such a sucker for cozy sweaters, warm tones, and – my ultimate weakness – pumpkin spice lattes. But Summer…it’s game time! I am trending all summer long with nails, shoes and hairstyles…and of course my Starbucks Passion Tea Lemonade.

In true Tiffany fashion, I’m mixing the best of both worlds…I’m bringing you all trends that work for all seasons, but especially summer. These are nail trends that I’ve been noticing this year and they are are so cute! Makes me wish I could get my nails done every week…but Jesse would loose his good mind!! 😝

Colored French Tips

We all know and love the classic white French tip, but I have been seeing these beautiful medium-length, almond-shaped sets tipped with fall colors like burnt red, forest green, and navy blue. I love this because it’s simple and elegant but still a little fun! I’m also seeing some “double-dipped” French tips where there are two colors that complement each other swiped across the tip of the nail. It gives the Frech mani a seriously bold makeover!

Skittles Mani + Full Set

If you’re the type of person that can never decide when color they want to paint their nails, you’re in luck! This season, painting each of your nails a different color is totally in. You just can’t go wrong with shades that remind you of fall leaves, Halloween, and apple cider! Or colors that remind you of sangria, sunsets or even a neon rave party. The options are limitless, as are the designs.

I know this sounds oddly specific, but I’ve been noticing a lot of nude nails with bold wavy lines that remind me of lava lamps; as well as yin yang patterns! I’ve also been seeing a lot of Geo print and animal print. All of which reminds me of the 70’s!

If you’re going to go with this style in the fall season, I highly recommend going with a deep purple or mustard color. Thinking more pop of color for summer? I got you, I would go for more of an cherry red or terra-cotta orange.

Press on Nails

What!? Press on nails seem so early 2000s, right? Well, after the coronavirus shut down nail salons for a period of time, lots of businesses seriously stepped up their press on nail game (check out some artists on Etsy)! A lot of brands are making a comeback with their Press On nails as well. Just check out KISS, they did not come to play with these glitzy coffin shaped nails, you can snag at your local Target for $7.99!!

But if you’re feeling you want something a little more custom, you can place an order with the Fairy Godmother of Nails, Kiki of KreationsByKiki. Personally, I love this nail trend because you can get a beautiful set of press on nails when you’re on the go. If you wanted, you could literally have a different set for everyday of vacation…or life! 🤪 They’re great to have on hand for those weeks when you’re pinching pennies or occasions when you need a quick mani but can’t get to the salon!

Ombre nails were huge last summer and they’re making a comeback this summer! But this summer it’s also all about the gradient. With gradient nails, the thumb is painted the darkest shade, and the pinky finger is painted the lightest. You can’t go wrong with a beautiful gradient of forest green to granny smith apple green!

Sephora Spring Savings: Beauty Finds

Sephora Spring Savings: Beauty Finds
Sephora Spring Savings: Beauty Finds
Sephora Spring Savings: Beauty Finds

Hot off the press! Sephora is having their Annual Spring Savings Event – and let me tell you they did NOT disappoint this year! I’m sharing my top FAVORITE beauty finds. Some items are newer for me, other items are old reliables I’ve been using for quite some time. I mean from lippies and skin moisturizers, to hair care MUST HAVES, this post includes it all. Below is a full breakdown of each product; why I am obsessed with it and why you need to add it to your cart and beauty routine ASAP.

Before we dive in; here is the skinny on the sales event. And when you’re able to shop based on status…

When you log into your Sephora.com account, under account info, you’ll see what status you fall within. I am only an Insider, so I have to wait a few more days to ship the sale. The higher your status, the larger percentage off, also the earlier you can shop. In many ways Sephora’s Spring Sale event reminds me of the coveted Nordy Anniversary Sale.

Rouge: Get 20% off from 4/9 – 4/19 with code OMGSPRING

VIBs: Get 15% off from 4/13 – 4/19 with code OMGSPRING

Insiders: Get 10% off from 4/15 – 4/19 with code OMGSPRING

As always, you’ve the option to shop online and do a store pickup. Or you can ship to your home, or head to your local Sephora. But if you’re purchasing online, you’re able to use Klarna. My understanding is whether or not you can do this, is based on credit worthiness. But essentially, it break up the cost of your total purchase (after tax) into 4 interest free payments. Personally, I make a habit of NOT using this option. But as a rule of thumb; if I have the funds in my account to purchase everything AT LEAST twice, then I’ll use it. That way I know I can actually afford it. But to each their own!

Now that we’ve gotten all of the nitty gritty details out of the way, lets get into the good stuff; the products!

Shop The Collage: Ole Henriksen Crème | Briogeo Don’t Despair Oil | Olaplex N*3 | Fenty Eaze Drops | Anastasia Brow Freezing Wax | Kosas Moisturizing Bronzer | Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick

Ole Henriksen: C-Rush Vitamin C Gel Moisturizer

Pricy side, but this small jar last you a while and packs a serious punch! It’s great for all skin types. The Ole Henriksen Vitamin C moisturizer is a gel based cream hydrant that last up to 24 hours. It also helps to reduce those fine lines and wrinkles us ladies in our 30’s are beginning to see. I swear! I turned 30 last march, and the fine wrinkles just began pop up, especially around my eyes. I’m not one for botox (at least not yet). So I try to stay hydrated with water and keep a good skin cream on deck. Originally I heard about this line, while watching Jenee (creator behind HighLowLuxxe.com) Instagram stories’s. She swore by this line and uses it herself. I gave it a try and was instantly hooked.

Briogeo Don’t Despair Oil

If you’ve been following me for a while on IG, you know I am a curly girl; who is obsessed with deep conditioning and keeping my hair moisturized. I am also a no: parabens, sulfates or silicones kind of gal, that includes my oils and gels. Say hello to Briogeo’s Don’t Despair Oil! Not only is it silicone free, but it is also strengthening and reparative oil. I add a bit of shine to my hair. But when I am also able to treat my hair – it’s a good dang day in my book!

Olaplex N*3

Next up for my favorite hair products is the OG hair product – Olaplex N*3. If you know you know, that’s really all I have to say about this product. ? This isn’t a conditioner but rather a strengthening bonder for hair, that reduces breakage. My hairdresser of YEARS would treat my hair with OlaplexN*3, and when I began talking to other curly girls – I realized it was a hidden gem that a lot of people use. That was about 2 years ago – now their products are mainstream in almost every Sephora, Ulta and hair salon across the country.

Fenty Beauty: Eaze Drops Blurring Skin Tint

Do not sleep on this product! This little bottle of magic deserves ALL the attention it’s been receiving. Can we just give a quick round of applause ? to Rihanna for her Fenty Beauty: Eaze Drops Blurring Skin Tint. No lie, ya’ll I am literally obsessed with this product. It not too light, but not too heavy. In all honesty, it reminds me of a nice BB Cream/Tinted moisturizer. Perfect for those days when you want to do a 5-minute, fast face of makeup but still look presentable.

True to Rihanna fashion, this line is just keeps giving! There are 25 different “flexible” shades to accommodate us all. See why I said it deserves a round of applause. In my beauty bag, I have the Fenty Pro Filt’R Soft Matte Foundation, Pro Filt’R Hydrating Longware Foundation and now the Eaze Drops Blurring Skin Tint. Hands down, the Ease Drops are likely my favorite, closely followed by the Hydrating Foundation.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freezing Wax

Have you heard of the Soap Brow trend? It’s where you use a brow brush and soap bar to shape/mold your brows. Resulting in fuller looking and shapely brows. Not a fan of it? No worries, Anastasia Beverly Hill came thru for the win! This Brow Freezing wax, allows you to sculpt your brows and hold them in place. It’s such a hot item, it’s sold out. ? But I had to include it in the roundup. I’ve been using it religiously and its a game changer.

Kosas Moisturizing Bronzer

I’ll keep this short and sweet! I didn’t know I needed this bronzer until I purchased it. I love my Fenty Beauty Bronzer, however the Kosas Moisturizing Bronzer, keeps my skin feeling smooth and give me a nice tanned sun kissed, almost contoured look.

Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick

Recently, worked with a color specialist. Ultimaely she was able to tell me what colors I should wear, that would best accentuate my features and coloring. When I got back the results, I was happy and socked. Pink is not my color ya’ll, I was so sad! So I immediately headed to my local Sephora to snag some new lipsticks and eyeshadow pallets. One of the items I snagged was, the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick! It comes in 15 shades, but I chose the shade ‘Scarlett Spell – Winter Berry’. It’s a limited edition – deeply rich burgundy color. And it’s apart of the spectrum of colors that best suit me!

Briogeo Superfood Hair Mask

I told ya’ll I love me some Briogeo! Especially since it’s a Black Owned Business! And ran by a woman! Anyhow back to the goods. This hair mask is another oldie but goodie. The Briogeo brand actually gifted it to me and I was impressed. Though I don’t use this hair mask ALL of the time; I have restocked it multiple times since my initial use. And when I do use it, I really like the end result of my hair. It leaves my hair feeling VERY moisturized. If I am completely honest, the smell is not my favorite. However the benefits of the clean ingredients, and how it feeds my strands; outweighs my dislike for it. So I definitely felt the need to mention it!

Fenty Cream Lipgloss

Another new addition to my beauty bag! I LOVE FENTY BEAUTY and I LOVE the Cream line!! I snagged this lippie in the color, ‘Honey Waffles’; and HUNTEA, let me tell you – you cannot tell me anything when I put it on! It’s a beautiful caramel color. It the gloss is a creamy one, but doesn’t lack any shine. It comes in 5 colors and is considered a hydrating and high shine lipgloss.

Skinfix: Barrier + Lipid-Boost Body Cream

Wrinkles don’t just occur on the face, they can be anywhere on your body. When I hit the bit 3-0 last March; I made a commitment to myself to take better care of my skin and body. Inside and out. I know its awful I didn’t do this prior to, but hey – we all gotta start somewhere. Now, I cannot give an in-depth review, as I’ve just begun using this cream. But what I can attest to is my ultra sensitive skin has NOT broken into hives since using it. Also I don’t feel the sticky residue that some creams leave – when using this. Check back later for an updated post on a review of my most used skincare products!

Glow Recipe Dew Drops

Instant glow in a bottle, PERIOD! What did Ariana Grande, say? “My smile is beamin’, my skin is gleamin’, The way it shine, I know you’ve seen it (you’ve seen it)” You’ll be signing this tune after using these drops on your skin! I really been trying to go a little lighter with my makeup. Hence using the Fenty Eaze Drops. When I put this on underneath, my skin is left feeling protected but not smothered. Put some drops on your skin, prior to your foundation or tinted moisturizer. You won’t regret it! It also reduces the sight of hyperpigmentation!

First Aid Beauty: Facial Radiance Pads

Charlotte Tilbury Setting Powder

I know I am going to get hate for this; BUT I have tried the Fenty Beauty Setting Powder and I very much prefer this one. ? Hear me out! The Charlotte Tilbury Setting Powder comes in 3 colors. It’s so lightweight! You literally don’t even know it’s there, but it does the job, giving your skin a smooth finish. It is a little pricey, but the smallest container goes a LONG way.

Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser

Last but not least, this is the final new addition to my beauty bag! Up until a year ago, I didn’t realize just how important a cleanser is. But tell ya’ll one thing – I do now! My skin is very sensitive (when it wants to be) and the Superfood Cleanse is gentle but effective. So far, so good – but I am still testing it, but I will make sure to report back!

By hovering over the items above, you can find additional details on the products. Such as cost and even set an alert to know when items go on sale!

I hope you are able to find a product you love out of this round up! As I mentioned early, keep your eyes peeled. I”ll be sharing a blog post in the coming weeks; giving you a rundown of my most used skincare products.

Until next time!

We are stepping into Spring and almost Summer, over in the TT Moon HQ! Ya’ll know I am dramatic, ? We may not be literally stepping into Summer, but it is officially Spring! And it’ll officially be Summer in t-minus 70 days!

So there is no better time than the present to spruce up our closets. I’m not going nuts and purchasing an entire new wardrobe. Oh no, no, no. I’ve actually been repurposing a lot of items from last season, for this season. Ya’ll know, I ball on a budget, and the one thing my closet has been lacking it more colorful pieces. More specifically dresses!

This year, instead of simply adding to my closet – I am switching it up. For every new piece I acquire, I am donating an older gently used item. This method keeps me on track with our budget, my husband from fussing and my fashionable alter ego please! ? Let me just tell you, I’ve added quite a few dresses!

5 Apps Every Content Creator Should be Using

5 Apps Every Content Creator Should be Using

Some people might think that running a blog looks like living like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. You know, running around in Jimmy Choos, soaking up the zest of life, and then going home to write about it while lying in bed with a face mask on. While you guys already know that MY life is not all high heels and cosmos, I want to tell you a little bit about how much WORK it really is to run a blog and my small business. Yes, it is a business and I DO have an LLC (blog post coming on that process soon!)

It’s so much more than coming home, opening up my laptop, and gushing about this or that. Running a successful blog and business takes a ton of planning and organization. And let’s be honest, that can be tough to do when you’re busy with everything else life is always throwing at you! Over the last 2 years, I have found tons of different apps that make my blogging life (and therefore, life in general!) so much easier. These apps help me plan: my posts, organize my photos, and even automate some things so my blog can kind of run itself.

5 Apps Every Content Creator Should be Using
5 Apps Every Content Creator Should be Using

These are just 5 of my go-to apps for staying organized as a blogger, content creator and small business owner! I’ll be sharing part 2 of series next week.

5 Apps every Content Creator Should Be Using

Flodesk – For emails newsletters + connecting

Some people might think that emails are phasing out, but I’m here to tell you that email marketing is still HOT HOT HOT! It’s one of the best and easiest ways to reach your followers and keep a steady stream of content flowing directly to them. The Flodesk app allows you to manage your email campaigns from wherever you are AND shoot out a spontaneous email to your crowd if you come across something that you just have to share! For my brand, I have ‘workflows’ set up through Flodesk. With this, whenever someone signs up for my email newsletter, they automatically get a welcome email, and a few days later they get a PDF freebie! Again these emails are automatic, which takes A LOT off of my plate!

Later – For scheduling content

As a blogger, I’m also super active on social media. Hoosuite helps me schedule out my posts so I don’t have to worry about being on my phone or computer all day every day. I just pick a photo, write the caption, and tell the app when I want it to be posted and where! Hootsuite will post to all of my social media platforms at once so I can work smarter – not harder!

Adobe Lightroom – For photo editing

Great photos are key to running a successful blog. They break up the writing on your page as give context to what you’re talking about. Not to mention, they help to personalize your page as much as possible – readers love to feel like they really know you! The Lightroom app helps me to professionally edit photos right from my iPhone so I never have to impatiently wait until I get home to edit and post photos.

Google Analytics – For tracking analytics

As a blogger, it’s so important to run analytics on your website. With the Google Analytics app, you can see how popular (or unpopular) a post is, where in the world your readers are visiting your website from and which pages they’re looking at. Analytics are awesome because they give you insight into what your audience is interested in so you can crank out content that you know they’ll love.

Canva – Info Graphics, Freebies, Templates

Canva is an app that’s functional and FUN! The app makes it super easy to lay text over images or create announcement posters. It’s my go-to app for creating some of my fancy-looking Pinterest posts! I know, I know, y’all thought I had a secret graphic design degree. Nope! Just the Canva app on my phone!

Part 1 | 5 Apps Every Content Creator Should be Using

To all my current bloggers and content creators, what are your favorite apps for managing your blogs and getting inspiration? There are hundreds of apps out there, but these are just MY personal favorites. Tell me in the comments below!

You know that I love to keep my community educated so we can ALL be successful. Like my girl Ariana Grande said: “there’s so much room at the top!” So if you are a blogger, content creator and/or small business owner; make sure you subscribe to my newsletter! And stay tuned because I’ve got a lot more blogger resources coming!

See you soon for Part 2 of 5 Apps every Content Creator Should Be Using.

2021 Fashion & Beauty Trends

2021 Fashion & Beauty Trends
Source: All Things Hair website

NYFW wrapped and there was A LOT of new trends revealed and renewed, in 2021! In general, I have been seeing and hearing a lot. And I mean, A LOT. It’s about how the fashion and beauty world is changing at the hand of Gen Z. ? Side part hate, cancelling the skinny jean, and *winces* UNDER-EYE BAG MAKEUP! So, I am rubbing my temples in disbelief at the thought of drawing on these under eye bags that I (literally) work so hard for. Mine are all-natural and designer thank you very much!

But I digress…I’m here to talk about the fashion and beauty trends in 2021 that I really love and am so excited to see online, in magazines (do they even exist anymore), and on the street!

‘70s-Inspired Hairstyles

First up is ’70s-inspired hairstyles! They say that history repeats itself. So, I guess that’s true because I’m seeing so many “fashion mullets,” natural curls, and choppy bangs. 2021 is going to be all about natural texture and hair that gives off a rock n’ roll vibe. Yes, that’s right, put down the curling wand that you’ve been so dedicated to for years. Then, strap your blow dryer with a diffuser attachment. Also, stock up on hair spray. The higher the hair (or heels) the closer to God – as the saying goes!

This year’s hairstyles are going to be as effortless as commuting to the office these days. Even with my own naturally curly mane, I find myself fluffing it more than usual. I am here for ALL of the volume! Don’t get me wrong, I still love to wear my defined curls, but the bigger the afro the better! And don’t even get me started on puff balls and pigtails making a comeback! I am SO excited, I cannot take it! Even though both of those styles make me look like I’m not legal! Interesting how a simply hairstyle can make you look more youthful!

This is a totally ‘90s look that I’m not mad about seeing again! People are getting really creative with money piece highlights this year. Personally, I love the classic bright blonde look, but the neon colors are killin’ the look too! If you’re new here – you may not know my hair is natural and curly, I’m trying to figure out how I can do the money piece highlights on myself!

But if you’re wanting this look and NOT the permanent color; then I would suggest you try either a temporary hair wax or colored gel. My go to is the CurlSmith hair makeup gel! It comes in 5 different colors: Gold, Ruby, Copper, Rose Gold, Turquoise. The picture above is of when I used the Ruby color in my own hair! Best part, is it only takes one wash to remove it from your hair.

Wide Legged and Relaxed Jeans

I’m not completely ready to let go of my skinny jeans just yet. But it is kind of a relief that baggy, comfy jeans are coming back into style! I can definitely see myself jumping into some “mom jeans” or wearing a nice relaxed jean with a pair of heels! The wide legged jean trend is definitely a chance for us “senior millennials” to try some new fashion trends and perhaps stop relying on skinny jeans and leggings so much! (Guilty)

I am a bonafide drama queen. And you meant to tell me, I can add a flair a drama back into my makeup routine? What took so long?! Also, I think we can partly attribute this trend to the HBO hit series Euphoria. We saw lots of glitter, bold eyeshadow colors, rhinestones, and also cat eyes on that show! In real life, those looks were mainly reserved for parties, the runway, and Halloween.

But in 2021, we’re definitely going to see people putting more self-expression into their makeup. It’s one of the reasons you are beginning to see the more vibrant makeup pallets make a comeback. So, I am here for ALL of it! And with quarantine still happening, this is a perfect time for you to brush up on your own makeup skills and hop on this 2021 makeup trend!

I don’t know how or why the French manicure got a bad rap for the last few years, but it was like all of the sudden everyone stopped asking for French tips at the nail salon! Well, this year, a huge nail trend in 2021 is the French manicure with a twist. Instead of a regular white tip, everyone is loving colored French manicures. Or the French tip but with a little something extra, like rhinestones or cute designs. As someone who loves to add a bit of pop to her nails, this trend is a winner for me! Give me a coffin nail with a killer design any day!

No Makeup

Wearing no makeup has finally become a thing again. It has definitely been catching on for a while. As we’ve seen a lot of people doing the “no makeup, makeup look”. Which is essentially where you are applying little to almost no, makeup very lightly, to give the illusion that you used none.

However, quarantine has given so many people a chance to give their skin a break, adopt an amazing skincare routine (myself included – I have a post coming on this next week!). And really get in touch with their skin for possibly the first time in their lives. With this newfound love for natural skin, we’re surely going to see moisturizers and balms over foundations and contour. I recently had to shoot some content, and I did it without makeup – it felt SO freeing! No to mention the photos came out beautifully and my face felt so fresh.

How to Style a Blazer 3 Ways

How to Style a Blazer 3 Ways

Welcome back to old friends and welcome to any new friends! Today is a special post, because I got to partner with the FABULOUS Caralyn Mirand, to bring you all this gorgeous blazer styled 3 ways on 2 different body types. Before we get started, I am going to link her post here, so you can check it out, once you’re done with this one!

Let me take a moment to brag on my friend – she is known as the confidence crusader, creator of the Properly Fitting Bra Club and all around gem. Caralyn has taught me SO much about confidence, style and how to be authentic to who I am and to love myself for how I look. If you aren’t following her on Instagram (@caralynmirand) I suggest you do! Between Caralyn, her husband turned “intern”, BK and their fashionable dog Walter Harvey, you’re in for a lot of laughs and a ton of inspo!

How to Style a Blazer 3 Ways

Now more on how I styled this blazer – as a petite woman, I sometimes shy away from certain styles. I can honestly say this blazer is for ALL body types. The sizing is super inclusive XXS-3X! I know, I jumped for joy when I saw this! My sister is taller and much curvier than me, and I plan on getting this for her, for her birthday!

For reference, I am 5’1, typically an XS (sometimes small) and petite – but that doesn’t mean I can’t slay with the best of them! This blazer is considered oversized, I probably could’ve sized DOWN to an XXS, but I wanted enough room to fit a sweater underneath it and NOT feel like my circulation was being cut off in my arms. ? All in all, I do think the XS fit me very well – it wasn’t too loose or too snug.

Look #1: All Black!

How to Style a Blazer 3 Ways neutral tone blazer

Before you say no to all black – it’s an effortlessly chic look and can be made to fit a day or nighttime look! For my particular outfit, I styled it with a lacy cami, faux leather pants & mules! I wanted to look a little dainty so I went with beaded jewelry and chunky hoops + watch for a pop. With a red or burgundy lip…this outfit is a winner.

Look #2: Jeans, White Bodysuit & Hightop Sneakers

How to Style a Blazer 3 Ways

I styled the blazer with hightop sneakers and a white body suit! So when I saw these sneakers, I KNEW they would look awesome with my blazer. The nike strip is a faux snake patter, mixed with taupe, brown and a light cream. And we cannot forget the chunky necklace! I am OBSESSED! This is a look I would wear to brunch or to run errands. Its giving me sporty but chic vibes. Also one of the biggest trend this season are chunky necklaces, especially layered. Get you one!

Look #3: Faux Leather Skirt, White Top & Pumps

blazer outfit ideas

Likely my favorite out of them all…a Date Night look! Coming in hot and spicy! Whew Chile! For this look, I went very basic where jewelry is concerned. Paired with a mini skirt (that is currently on sale!) and pumps, it looks like I have legs for days! The blazer helps to 1. add pop of neutral color but 2. also add a different texture as the skirt is like a pebbled material. I apologize, I didn’t get a photo with my heels but I’ve linked them below, they are ombre paten leather pumps and compliment the outfit beautifully! But listen here, my husband has literally already asked me when I am wearing this look to dinner with him (insert eye roll here) ? … so be careful if you wear this in front of your significant other!

How to Grow Your Blog’s e-Subscription List!

woman using her laptop in a cafe sharing Grow Your Blogs e-Subscription

So I keep hearing newbie and OG bloggers/influencers say – “influencer marketing is too oversaturated” or “no one wants to hear what I have to say.” This is totally false, on both accounts! I began blogging almost 3 years ago, I use to say the exact SAME thing. And I’m telling you from personal experience – it’s wrong.

Have a blog that you’re passionate about (or even just an idea for one)? If you answered yes, then there is a space for you! I know what you’re thinking, “But, Tiffany, it’s too late for me. There are too many blogs out there already.” You better take those negative thoughts and toss them out the window because there is PLENTY of room for everyone on. Your story is unique and how you bring it to the table can be too. You just have to know how to navigate it.

How to Grow Your Blog’s e-Subscription List!

I have said it and I will continue to – cross promotion on other platforms such as: Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok – is great! However, you should ALWYAS be re-directing people back to our blog. That is literally the only platform that you own. The unfortunate reality is, our instagram accounts could be pulled down by IG or even, hacked – at any time. In the last 2 months, I’ve seen it happen to 3 creators, all in different nieches! All of these creators hard work, followers, everything – gone. Some of the creators were able to get their accounts back, others unfortunately were not, and had to start over. This is why it is imperative that you have your own space, that you own to redirect your community of followers to!

I also heard from a little birdie that blogs and newsletters are making a comeback in 2021! ? I honestly wonder if it’s due to peoples feed fatigue. Either way, it’s time for you to carve our your space online and own it like the boss you are! And that’s why today I am sharing 5 ways YOU, yes you – can grow your Blog’s e-Subscription List!

If you want to grow your blog’s fan base, you have to focus on three critical aspects:

1. Getting new visitors

2. Converting visitors into subscriber

3. Getting your subscribers to share your blog and bring in MORE new visitors.

Use pop-up or slide in CTAs

The term CTA, also known as a ‘Call To Action’, is a marketing word to describe action and/or follow-up steps you ask of your audience/readers. An example of that is at the end of every blog post, I typically ask my readers to leave a comment to promote engagement. You’ve likely heard the term used on Social media when an influencer says, visit the link in my bio for “x”. CTAs’ are important on social AND on your blog! If you don’t already have a CTA on your blog pages, I suggest you add one. They could sound something like this…

“Enjoying this blog? Subscribe now so you’ll never miss a post!”

Or to make it even more attractive for potential subscribers, offer them a little something extra…

“Each new subscriber will receive my FREE guide to ____”

Keep your writing focused

Do you know who your Target Audience is? If you don’t know that, you may want to start by figuring out your brand pillars. These are 3-5 subjects that your brand is based around. Those are the topics you’ll share in rotation on your blog and social platforms – therefore feigning your target audience. Once you know how your brand pillars and who your target audience is; you want to be sure sure that your blog posts are geared towards the audience you have and want to follow you.

So for example, if your brand pillars are: holistic wellness, ethical fashion and family; you would share content around those areas. Maybe in rotation, one subject per week. This will help to keep your audience coming back to you for more advice because they know what to expect and you are their go-to SME (subject matter expert).

Be a guest blogger

It might not seem like it makes sense to write for someone else’s blog when you’re trying to scale your own, but guest blogging can be a GREAT way to gain exposure! Just make sure you create something fresh and exciting – not a recycled piece from your blog. Also make sure the host blog is okay with you adding a byline at the end and a little blurb about you and your blog.

Cross-promote with other blogs

In all aspects of life, there’s nothing more important than having a network of people that you can count on to help you grow. Seek out blogs that are similar to yours, but non-competitive, and extend an offer for cross-promotion. This opens you (and them) up to a whole new market of people!

Direct people to your landing page

Post a link to your website’s landing page wherever you can – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, even at the end of your blog posts! Your landing page is where readers will discover the value of becoming one of your subscribers. Make sure it has an easy and obvious way for them to subscribe!

Growing and scaling your blog is an instrumental way of growing and scaling your business. The more readers you have, the more likely you’re going to be shared on other websites, and that means the potential to go VIRAL!! Once that happens, who knows what’s next… a verified Instagram account? We can only hope!

Did I miss anything? Let me know if you’ve got any other tried and true methods of growing your blog’s e-subscription list in the comment box below!

Cooking for Self Care

Cooking with Blue Apron

A HUGE thank you to Blue Apron for sponsoring this post. All thoughts, views and opinions are my own and brought to you in the truest form.

Cooking with Blue Apron

Friends, there is a new sheriff in the Turner-Moon Casa and it’s Blue Apron! You may recognize the blue box pictured above, but let me tell you more about what the logo actually represents. Blue Apron is a meal kit delivery service, that specializes in making life easier, teaching you new cooking skills and bringing deliciousness, one incredible recipe at a time. With over 23+ WEEKLY menu options, there is something for everyone. Even the picky eaters in your house. I have two in mine, but I won’t name any names… Jesse & Bella 😉 They can be so fickle, sometimes, that I literally have to sneak in veggies – when cooking for them!

Blue Apron has definitely helped in makes those vegetables much more appetizing. Not only are you offered a host of recipes, but you also have the option to go with their Wellness Menu (more on this later), Carb Conscious, WW (weight watchers) approved meals AND vegetarian recipes.

In 2021, I am taking better care of myself, this being for myself and for my family. Its a promise I intend to keep, in more ways than one. Nowadays I start my day with my bible instead of my phone. Make sure I eat a healthy and balanced breakfast, and do better at planning meals in advance. Collectively, these simple steps aid me in my quest and improve my mental health. Since beginning to use Blue Apron’s recipes – the change in myself in many areas has been noticeably significant. First by feeling good about the food and ingredients I, and my family are ingesting. And I’ve also noticed I am stressing WAY less about having to cook. And those days I don’t feel like cooking? I hand a recipe card to my hubby and he goes to town!

That’s why I am really happy to share with you all how utilizing their services has done wonders for: my time, my budget and most importantly my mental health.

Being in the kitchen, cooking and/or baking has always been therapeutic for me. My family is aware that when I cook, it comes not from a place of duty but a place of love, it’s all cooked with love for them.

Cooking For Self Care

When looking more into the connection between cooking and mental health I was surprised that something I loved, could also have added benefits on my mental health. In an article by Psychology Today regarding cooking and mental health- they stated, “food related activities involving: shopping, cooking, planning, and of course, eating can serve as useful tools for helping individuals feel better about themselves, enjoy shared experiences with others, and adopt desirable health habits.” It’s rather ironic, as when I really thought about it – I realized I tend to either clean or bake when I am stressed out. Doing those two things calm me significantly and ultimately bring me joy. And it delights my family!

Why Is Cooking Good for Mental Health

Practicing Self Care

I mentioned earlier that, this year I am practicing self care in the form of cooking. But practicing self care looks different for everyone. When I cook, it is a stress free zone. After a busy day – I put on some music, have a glass of wine and make a meal. Blue Apron allows me to NOT have to spend hours in the kitchen, as majority of their recipes are prepared in 35 minutes or less. At that, the ingredients are fresh produce and high quality with a host of different benefits. Not to mention as apart of their Wellness program you can get recipes that use natural sweeteners. To me, this is one of the best forms of self care.

Less stress

Let’s be real, I have a full-time 9-5 job, on top of blogging full-time. If there is way get time back in my day, I am in! Especially because if I am honest, when we eat out too much, and Bella mentions she is craving a home cooked meal; mom guilt instantly sets in. Prior to utilizing Blue Apron, if I was too tired I would just grab fast food. Not great for anyone’s body, and on top of that the guilt I feel comes a plethora of emotions that can ultimately lead to a downward spiral for my mental health and wellness.

I am not against grabbing fast food every once in awhile. But Jesse and I have both agreed that we would take it easy on fast food for our budget and our health, this year. In using Blue Apron services, I can pick out each week’s recipes WITH my family, therefore spending time with with them. But I also am able to skip having to go to the grocery store (more time) and have the ingredients delivered straight to my door. Game changer! I am given time back in my day, ability to cook with love for my loves and be good to our budget!

Sense of Accomplishment

There are some times throughout the day, I feel like I’ve accomplished nothing. It could be the busiest day all week and I’ll feel like I’m just spinning wheels. When I cook, I always am left feeling accomplished and fulfilled. And then when I hear my families sigh of pleasure after the first bite? Oh, you better believe it is like music to my ears and my heart. It makes me feel good as a person, mom and wife. Every recipe I’ve tried with Blue Apron thus far has been new to me. But the sense of pride and accomplishment I feel in myself is priceless. I managed to perfectly sear chicken breast, make Italian dressing from scratch, cook with ingredients I’ve never use. It feels SO good!

In all the ways Blue Apron has improved my life, relationships and finances, its positive contributions to my mental health, are most evident in the ways I spoke of above.

Upon speaking to a friend about, Blue Apron’s meal delivery services; she mentioned it was gifted to her and her family, after she had surgery. It took a lot of pressure off of her family. She said her husband prepared simple, recipe guided meals. And she was able to focus on recuperating. Hearing this, I decided to gift Blue Apron to Bella’s Grandmother for her birthday this year. They love cooking together, and it’s been a year since she and Bella have been able to. Gifting her Blue Apron, and now they can cook together on FaceTime!

Our motto, in The Turner-Moon casa for 2021 is to “live well and eat well”. If you’re looking treat yourself or someone you love to a Blue Apron, such as their Wellness recipes and kickstart your new year use this link to save up to $80 off your First 4 boxes!

Curl Talk Thursday: Lets Talk about my HAIRitage’

Pantene Nutrient blends for Let's Talk about my HAIRitage

This post is sponsored by Pantene – however, all thoughts, views and opinions are my own. And brought to you in the truest form.

I am so excited and elated for the return of my series Curl Talk Thursdays! It was originally something I typically only did on my Instagram account. But I’ve decided to make it a series here on my blog, so it has a permanent space. As well as on my TikTok. To kick off this reboot, I am answering a few of your most asked questions below, about my hair HAIRitage.

And chatting about Pantene’s Nutrient Blends line. Apart of the Nutrient Blends line, I am currently using the Miracle Moisture Boost Collection with Rose Water. Which is free of sulfates, parabens, dyes and mineral oil. If there is one thing my hair needs its moisture, and a lot of it! Thankfully there are a lot of benefits to using rose water in one’s hair, such as…you guessed it, adding and retaining moisture.

When I began my natural hair journey 3 years ago, I didn’t know much. And 3 years later, I am definitely NOT an expert. But I hope through this post, I can help someone who is starting out not make the mistakes I did. Now, let’s dig right into some of your most frequently asked questions below! Some of these questions are asked via direct message and other in the comments of my Instagram post.

Curl Talk Thursday: Let’s Talk about my HAIRitage

Question: What is your hair/curl type?

Answer: My hair type/curl pattern is a mix between 3C and 4A! When I first began my natural hair journey 3 years ago, I had no clue about hair types. Once I did learn about them, I assumed you could only have one hair type. But actually you can have a mixture! Each hair type and curl pattern is different, just as we all are different.

That being said, you’ll need to create a routine that works for you and your hair! For my own hair, I prefer a routine that includes products that are Sulfate and Paraben free. Which is why I use the Miracle Moisture Boost Collection with Rose Water.

A lot of people, myself included – don’t know when starting out on their natural hair journey; just how imperative it is to ensure your wash day products are treating your hair not just cleaning it. I have VERY dry hair, so I try to incorporate products that promote and enhance moisture. This way from step 1 (washing/conditioning), all the way to the last step of styling; I am doing everything I can to lock in that moisture in.

When I recently, began trying out the Miracle Moisture Boost Collection; I was naturally excited about the fact that the shampoo was sulfate free.

This shampoo not only left my hair feeling clean but moisturized. Sulfates have the tendency to strip the hair of all natural oils. As a rule of thumb, I typically only use a sulfate shampoo twice a month. And that is when I am doing my deep clarify + moisturize treatment. It’s an all day thing, I’ll do a post on that in the coming weeks. But whether you are on your first day of your hair journey or 200th day; I implore you to take note how your hair feels pre-shampoo vs post. If you feel like you hair feels a bit frizzy, hard or brittle – you may want to check the ingredients and the line you are using.

Question: What made you decide to go natural?

Answer: I have wanted to go natural for quite some time, years actually. I’ve always had naturally curly hair, but for years my mom would perm my hair to make it straight. She didn’t have the patience for my hair when it was curly, not that I blame her…it’s definitely a lot! Once I got older and learned how to do my hair, I stopped perming my hair. But I didn’t stop straightening it or taking care with the products I used. I began to see just how damaged my hair was. I would wet it and you weren’t able to even tell I had curls. My hair was literally that straight. I knew something had to be done.

I remember when my older cousin, began her undergrad degree at HBCU A&T; she was exposed to so much black excellence and history. It was amazing to see! She also learned more about natural hair and how beautiful it is and how beautiful we, black women are. Watching her go from having her hair be ramrod straight, to naturally, untamed and beautiful was so incredible.

I would sit on the stairs and watch her do her hair, which quickly grew into a large afro. She would do twist and or twist-outs, wear braids and all types of styles. Her strength and fearlessness was and still is inspiring. She is a black women, who went to Law School and is now a practicing attorney. She walks the halls of court buildings with her natural hair, head held high. Inspiring honestly doesn’t do justice to the emotions seeing that invokes in me!

Question: Do you have a favorite Curly Hair influencer or blogger?

Answer: Omg yes! So I began researching curly cuts, and I found Bianca Renee. She is literally now one of my FAVORITE curly hair influencers/YouTubers. Shes taught me so much about how to care for my hair (inside and out). From how to trim, to curly styles and more. She also was the one who told me about how imperative it is to condition your hair. Especially when you have low porosity hair and/or dry hair like myself.

There are definitely a lot more options now for naturals and curly girls, than there was when I first started out 3 years ago. Pantene’s clean Rose Water Conditioner being one of them! I condition my hair every time I wash my hair. And also try to do a deeply penetrating treatment at least once a week. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the Rose Water Treatment! When I used it, I didn’t sit underneath the dryer, but instead put a shower cap on. Then left it in my hair for about 30 mins, but the instructions suggest about 5-7 minutes. When doing this type of treatment, you definitely have the option to use a heated shower cap, to give the treatment that added boost!

Question: Do you treat Bella’s hair with the same products you create your own with?

Answer: Yes and no! Bella’ hair is very different from mine. So sometimes I will do a deep treatment on my own hair, that Bella may not need. I will say I was able to use this entire collection on her hair. And I was just as impressed as I was with my hair. I like to do our wash days at the same time, it makes life so much easier! But the extra steps I take, like using the LCO method to lock in moisture when styling my hair. I don’t necessarily do with Bella’s hair.

For me as an influencer and person with natural hair, I like to use and work with companies; that are not only inclusive but make pledges and stand by them. As such I feel it necessary to call out Pantene’s Pledge toward Accessibility! Their mission to create content that is more accessible for ALL audiences, is so heartwarming. When taking on this partnership, they ask that we (the content creators), be mindful of our words, actions, include closed captioning in our content; to ensure we are covering all communities.

They also requested we be mindful of colors used. Opting for color-bind friendly palettes to provide enough contrast ration between elements. I have to tell y’all, these ask spoke VOLUMES to me about this company. They not only are inclusive with regards to people who want clean products. Such as items free of: sulfates, parabens and silicones – but to all people.

That concludes this weeks Curl Talk Thursday! As always let me know if you have any questions about hair care, curls, beauty routine etc. Learn more about Pantene Nutrient blends here and purchase them at Target!

7 Ways to Organically Grow your Followers on Instagram

So you want to grow on Instagram but don’t know where to start. Okay sis – lets talk about it! Obviously it’s a bit of a pain right now, I know, believe me. But growing your following on Instagram has so many benefits! As an influencer, companies will pay you big buck if they know that you can reach a ton of people. Instagram hasn’t yet surpassed Facebook in user count, but there are still over a billion monthly users. That means there’s so much untapped potential out there for you and your influence.

So many people don’t understand the ins and outs of Instagram and how to properly take advantage of their algorithms. The algorithms haven’t been created to make things MORE difficult for Instagram users that are trying to grow their follower count, but they don’t exactly make it easy, either.

Luckily, you guys have got me! I might not be verified on Instagram (yet!), but I have grown my follower count exponentially in the last few years. The most important thing that I’ve come to learn is that you can’t grow your follower count in Instagram by working alone. Creating a network of Instagram influencers that you can bounce off of is one of the most effective ways to grow your followers!

7 Ways to Organically Grow your Followers on Instagram

Make Sharable Content

Can’t stress this enough! Sharable content is on the move in 2021. More and more you’re seeing quotes, recipes, tips and more. In February of 2020, Later Media, predicted that Sharable Content/Info Graphics were on the rise. They also predicted they’d huge in 2021. They were NOT wrong! A lot of influencers are seeing serious engagement and growth from their Sharable Content, they’ve posted. Make the content authentic and true to you! Maybe your following looks to you for a list of seasonal closet staples? Make a fun graphic with pieces of clothing listing out this seasons must have pieces! One of my favorite creators who shares awesome sharable content is Cathy of Poor Little It Girl. Moral of the story – make and post content that YOU would want to re-share!

Create IG Reels

I can go on a whole tandem about this! But if you’re wanting to grow on Instagram, especially in 2021, you NEED to be showing up on IG Reels. If you aren’t familiar with Reels, it’s Instagrams version of TikTok, and they are pushing it hard. There are 3 types of IG Reels: Educational, Inspirational or Entertaining. You don’t have to stick to just one type of IG Reels. You’ll want to create Reels that resonate with your current audience; and new audience you’re trying to draw in. I have a blog post coming later this week on how to show up on Reels! As well as how to repurpose your TikTok on Reels! But if you haven’t already, check out Sofi of ThatSoSofi on Instagram for Reel Inspo!

Intentional Giveaways

Intentional Giveaways can be a great way to grow your follower count, and if done strategically they help your engagement, too. Instagram’s new algorithm favors people who have posts; post that get a lot of likes and comments. Not necessarily those who have the most followers.

You can do it all on your own, but working with other people give you better exposure! This is not necessarily the same as a LOOP giveaway – those usually include having to follow a TON of accounts. Also, when partnering with other Influencers/Bloggers, make sure you are in similar niches. This will give you a better chance of gaining and keeping followers.

How to host a giveaway with other influencers:

1. Collab with other influencers to create an awesome package to give away to a lucky winner. Keep it simple and partner up with no more than four other accounts.

2. Create rules for entry that are geared toward guaranteeing you’ll be seen or followed by the participants. For example, “tag your bestie!” or “all participants must be following me and the other accounts hosting this giveaway.”

3. Post the giveaway on your profile and in your story. Keep the giveaway featured in your story every day until the winner is selected.

One creator who speaks opens about NOT doing loop giveaways (because they are a vicious cycle), but does fun small giveaways with other creators is Carmen C. of CarmenReneeBlog on Instagram.

Repost Other Influencers and Bloggers

“Regramming” others’ posts can have just as much impact as creating original content – sometimes more! When sharing content that other influencers post, it can help to make them notice you. And give you an opportunity for them to repost your content, which opens you up to all of their followers.

Unfortunately, Instagram doesn’t make it super easy to share other’s content, unless you’re posting it on your stories. If you want to repost another user’s content onto your feed, you’ll have to use a third-party app like Repost. Or you can do as I have done and do a carousel post. This is a post where you are posting more than one photo. Make the initial photo yourself, something on brand with your feed. Next post the photo of the influencer/blogger you’re wanting to “regramm.” Don’t forget to tag them.

When you repost another influencer’s post, make sure to use their relevant hashtags! That way, when people are searching through their hashtag(s), they’ll find your profile and hopefully hit that follow button. One influencer who does a great job of partnering with other influencers within the same niche is Tomi of GoodTomiCha over on Instagram.

Try-on Hauls with Other Influencers

Who doesn’t love getting dressed up and strutting around the house like you’re on a runway? Obviously right now we have no where to go, so it’s nicer than usual! Utilizing IGTV, Reels and/or Stories, to do a tyron haul or test new products; is a great way to get eyeballs on your page.

I think that it’s really valuable to work with influencers of all platform different sizes. According to Later Media – in 2021 working with micro-influencers (10k – 100K followers), will be the most beneficial to growing your follower count. A lot of brands are finding that these influencers/bloggers followers are much more engaged and connected to the creator. Plus, how much fun will it be to watch each other grow from a few hundred follower – to your dream number? One of my favorite follows, Taryn of TarynTruly on Instagram does an amazing job of partnering with other creators through her #midsizethelook Monday series!

Instagram Takeovers

Instagram takeovers stared out as a way for brands and influencers to collaborate with each other. However more and more people are Instagram takeovers have become a key aspect of well known creators, Instagram marketing strategy.

An Instagram takeover is when one user takes control of another account for a certain amount of time. Usually, it’s a few hours to a day. During this time, the user that has “taken over” the account can talk about things that are important to them. They can also promote themselves or their brand, and have valuable discussions, with a whole new group of followers.

Instagram takeovers work so well because both the person who is “taking over” an account, AND the host get to reap the benefits. On one hand, the host account gets to provide their followers with some fresh, valuable content. On the other, the account that is doing the takeover has the ability to tap into an audience that may been unreachable.

If you’re wondering who to collab with for a takeover, there are so many options out there! Some examples of what that looks like are:

1. Appearing on another influencer’s page, to bring some exciting content to their followers that you know they’ll appreciate.

2. Taking over an activist’s page that speaks to you, and discuss your support for their cause and what it means to you.

3. Or you could even takeover a brand’s page, to talk about how their products have changed your life!

If I am in doubt about how to show up on social, I turn to my good friend – and AMAZING creator, Caralyn Mirand Koch of CaralynMirand on Instagram. She’s recently did a takeover of sorts with Nordstrom – where she streamed live with them chat about the #properlyfittingbraclub and all things Valentine’s Day Looks!

I am guess by the end of this post you’ve realized that, growing your Instagram following organically isn’t something that happens overnight. More than likely, it’s going to take time for people to find you, and for you to make a name for yourself. And although growing your Instagram following is a long game, it’s one that is WORTH IT. Especially if you’re interested in being an influencer! Instagram can be a great marketing tool in your branding belt, but don’t get TOO focus on it that you forget your other platforms and blog. You also want to ensure you’re putting energy into the things you own, like your website.

Don’t get discouraged! Be consistent, be patient and, most importantly, be YOURSELF! And as always, if you’re on Instagram at tiffanyturnermoon – make sure to follow me and send me a DM, so I can make sure to follow you back and support!

How To Successfully Blend Two Families

When it comes down to it, building a family – no matter how your building – is all about love and patience. When it comes to a blending a family, well buckle your seatbelt, the Brady Bunch didn’t cover it all! You’re essentially taking two families with different experiences, and merging them together. This comes with a host of challenges, in varying forms. It could be just in the form of kids ; or it could include having to deal with family assets like: homes, properties, investments, or even cash. And then, there is the possibility of it being a previous spouse/significant other, and/or family members. Yeah, blending a family can get REAL, real – very fast.

For my little blended family, it takes A LOT of patience and love, even now. If you’re new here, you may not know – Bella is my daughter from a previous relationship and Jesse is not Bella’s biological father, on paper. I say on paper because in my and Bella’s heart ♥️ , he is not her step-parent/bonus parent, he’s her dad. Jesse has been in our lives since Bella was 5 years old (she is turning 11 in July). And we began dating I told him – we (Bella and I) were a package deal. He didn’t blink an eye, he simply told me he, “wouldn’t have it any other way”. I can truthfully say, he still proves this to be true daily.

How to Successfully Blend Two Families

Everyday has been an adventure and not always one I want to embark on. Some days it’s easy and other days it’s challenging. One thing I struggled with initially, was Bella’s request (very early on) to call Jesse “daddy”. It was when we became engaged (6 months after dating), Bella said to us she was going to call him, “daddy”. Initially I tried to talk to her, I thought – maybe she was jumping the gun? But she was adamant, she was calling him daddy. After speaking with my therapist, he stated I should NOT try to tell her how to feel. But instead allow her to develop that relationship and call him daddy if that is her wish.

After that, I never looked back. We tied the knot, 2.5 years later (at the courthouse), and Jesse gave Bella a beautiful gold necklace, with “Daddy’s Little Angel” written on it. When he gave it to her, he promised to always love and protect her, then asked if she’d be his angel forever? After they both burst into tears and hugged, for a long while. It was one of THE most beautiful moments, I’ve ever seen (pictured below).

Their relationship is deeply root in love and respect; it’s so special.

When you’re ready to begin blending your family, you’re going to want to do a few things like; practice patience, establishing your own family system, and be understanding, etc. It’s a process and it will take time – especially when you’re dealing with children. Throughout this post I will share different ways to successfully blend a family. These are just tips, ultimately it’s going to take you dedicating the time and patience and a lot of love for this to work. But I’ve got faith in you – if I can do it, you can do it!

Practicing Patience and Understanding

While it might seem daunting at first, the important thing to remember is that love is what brought your two families together, and this will certainly help you get through it all. Some of the most common challenges often revolve around parenting. Remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day and relationships aren’t either. This will take a lot of time and patience on all ends. There will be times the kid, let alone the adult can’t verbalize what they’re feeling. Let the matter rest and revisit it at another time. There isn’t anytime like the present, but all of it doesn’t have to be spent in turmoil. Love on one another, don’t go to bed angry and remember to give yourself and others time to adjust.

Kids Relationships With Biological Parent/Bonus Parent

Kid’s aren’t collateral, and they’re not leverage – they’re kids. They are going to develop relationships of their own, whether we want it or not. And the parental relationship between the biological parent and child shouldn’t be overlooked. It deserves the respect and understanding of all parties involved. This also goes for the bond between a bonus parent and child. This relationship is also something to be understood and respected by both sides, as well.

Remember There Was Life BEFORE You

I know this can be hard, but in order to have a less difficult time blending a family – it’s vital to remember your step-child/spouse had a life prior to you. And with that prior existence, comes some strings. Some that are non-negotiable. Every situation is different. In my instance, Bella’s father and I weren’t married, we only dated. And I have primary custody of her. So we collectively ensure Bella get’s to visit with her father and his family often (this was prior to COVID, of course). There are times we will fly to Connecticut – where he and his parents live. We will stay for a week so Bella can visit with everyone. Other times, Bella’s grandparents and father may drive or fly to where we live in, North Carolina for a week to visit.

These arrangements look different for every family. And as such it’s possible that the family you’re merging with has a custody agreement in place. Within the agreement, the kid(s) may have to live with the other parent (or prior spouse) for a specified amount of time every year. If you don’t agree with the arrangement, ask questions first, prior to offering your opinion. Try to understand how this arrangement came to be. You don’t want to make negative comments, that can be off-putting. Instead offer your opinion in a a suggestive way. For your mental health and that of your families, you don’t want to suppress what you’re feeling. But you also don’t want to forget that these arrangements were prior to you so you definitely want to listen to learn and understand.

Setting Realistic Expectations

I cannot stress this enough, take your time. Emotions are a tricky thing, as is mental health. Don’t rush anyone into accepting you, the family unit or honestly – even the idea of it. If you are proactively putting in the work – the rest will fall into place. Now a caveat to that, is some people will never be on board, and you have to be okay with that.

In my experience, I had to accept that not everyone will be for us. Jesse and I have been together for 4 years, married for almost 2, and Bella’s father has never met him. Bella’s grandparent’s (her father’s parents) have met Jesse – and approve – but her father has not. He literally refuses to meet Jesse and you know, I had to realize that’s his choice. I wouldn’t do it this way, but we are different people, and that’s okay. While this certainly isn’t a roadblock for our family, it could prove to be for another family. This could cause some challenges and that, at the very least should be taken into consideration.

Creating Your Own Family System – How to Successfully Blend Two Families

I can give you tips until I am blue in the face, but ultimately you have to do what works best for YOUR family. That can come in the form of creating your own family system. Personally, I think this is critical. Quite frankly the olden days of the nuclear family simply don’t apply anymore. Your blended family might be dealing with a bonus and a biological parent – which can can be a challenge when shoved into the constraints of the typical “nuclear family.” Kids want to feel respected, and young children might not even entirely comprehend exactly what’s happening to their family.

One way you can create that system is by establishing easy to follow household rules. This can something as simple as being home for dinner, cleaning up the dishes, putting toys away, etc. Each of these tasks are simple enough that your kids (dependent on how young they are) can manage them on their own. Another idea, is to set up a family meeting schedule. This is when you all meet, for 45 minutes to an hour – say once a week – and simply spend time together. For older kids, this can ensure that they set this time aside during the week to spend time with their family, and for younger kids, it’ll help them get more comfortable with their new situation.

Shopping at Nordstrom for Under $100

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle – however all thoughts, views and opinions are my own and brought to you in the truest form.

If you’ve been following me on my Instagram and watching my stories, then you know I have been in a bit of a funk as of late. So to get me out of it, Jesse suggested a little retail therapy…and Thai food. Oh how well he knows me! I wouldn’t dream of saying no! 😉 I immediately suggested we swing by our local Nordstrom’s to see what new pieces were in. He suggested we shop on a budget, so I set a budget of $100 max per piece. Of course, Mr. Moon didn’t believe I could find items I loved for under $100. Unbelievable right? 😉 Needless to say once done I was smiling like a Cheshire Cat. Nordstrom did NOT disappoint! There were so many pieces from jewelry, shoes, pants and more; that were regularly prices and well under a $100.

I’ve spoken to quite a few people who heard the store name Nordstrom and immediately become intimidated. The assumption that I’ve found is that, they won’t be able to find pieces within their price range. I am here to lay that fear to rest! You can absolutely shop at Nordstrom, look and feel like a million bucks and not break bank! I’ve been shopping at Nordstroms since I was in middle school. Of course during those days it was my parents paying for my outfits, so the price wasn’t really a care of mine. Now a days (adulting days) price is very important to me as are rewards. And Nordstrom’s consistently checks those boxes for me!

Benefits of Shopping at Nordstrom’s

Aside from their spectacular customer service; Nordstrom also has: free shipping and returns, curbside pick-up and the option of BOPUS (buy online, pick up in store). These options alone are enough for me. I cannot tell you how many times, I’ve needed a last minute item for Bella or myself and we’ve utilized curbside pick-up.

Another great feature is Free virtual styling!

You are able to meet (virtually) with a stylist for up to 30 mins. The stylist can put together an entire outfit or simply suggest pieces for you. I have a personal Sales Associate at my local Nordstrom, and I love that I can communicate with her via Nordstrom. She’s even assisted my husband in finding the perfect present from time to time, such as my pink Valentino wallet/purse. But she also assist me when I say, “hey I am looking for a dress at a price point of “$50”. It’s that type of personalized help that keeps me returning.

I like to have options, it’s important to me. So I really appreciate that I can always find pieces that are well within my price point, be it hight or low. Another benefit of shopping at Nordstrom, is being able to be apart of the Nordy Club. As a member, I am able to gain rewards + points when shopping that turn into Nordstrom Notes! Depending upon your “status” you’re allotted a amount of Personal Double Points Days, annually. At your discretion you can use and/or schedule these days. When you using a Double Point Day, you gain double the points on your Nordstrom purchases for a full 24 hours.

Personally, I save my point days until I know I am going to make large purchase (i.e., a handbag).

In more recent years, I’ve designated my notes days when shopping at Nordstrom’s during the Anniversary Sale or Holiday shopping. That is when I typically spend the most in one day, hence gaining the most points. And with my and Jesse’s budget being pretty strict this year, we are trying not to use our credit cards as much. It feels SO good to know that I can shop using my debit card, and STILL gain points.

Shopping Online & In-Store

As a rule of thumb, a large portion of my wardrobe consist of neutral colors. I try to have at least 5-7 neutral pieces, per season. This way I can pair my staple pieces with more fun/colorful pieces, I may pick up along the way. So I was able to venture out and be a little edgier with my pant style/color. I’ve been on the hunt for faux leather pangs for quite some time! I didn’t want a just a black pair like everyone else. I wanted some detailing to them and a pop of color.

These Topshop Fliss Biker Faux Leather Pants, effortlessly hug my body.

They also allow for just enough room around my waist, (for reference I am wearing a size 4). They also fulfill all of my desires and are under my $100 threshold – actual price point is $75.00, although some of the other colors are on sale.

To find these pants, I immediately went to the Topshop department of my local Nordstrom. I chose this department because the items typically run between $20-$200; and yes that is a large bracket – however it allows anyone with any budget find items. This is a strategy I also practice when shopping Nordstrom online, I will use the top navigational bar to find items within Topshop and then filter by price. More than not, I find I have more luck when shopping online with Nordstrom as the in-stock inventory can differ between stores (the West Hartford, CT store vs the Raleigh, NC store).

Since these pants are such a beautiful rich green color, I didn’t want to pair anything loud with them. Instead I wanted to stay within the neutral family and accent the pants with a nice cream and/or oatmeal colored sweater and a grey or taupe purse. I didn’t find an anything that caught my eye in-store, so I of course, went on the Nordstrom website and searched cream sweaters within the Topshop department, at a price point of $25-$100. When I spotted this sweater online, purchasing it was a MUST! This Topshop Mock Neck Crop Sweater fits TTS (for reference I am wearing a size XS). Its literally as soft as it looks. Most importantly it’s under $100 – actual price point is $68.00.

Accessorizing My Look

No outfit is complete without accessories, am I right?! To accessorize this outfit I kept it very understated and simple. I love my hair and hoops to be big! To me there is just something about large hoops with a curly afro – it’s so edgy chic! Personally I don’t think one can ever have enough hoops! And thankfully Nordstrom always has a ton of hoop earrings, in various shapes to choose from.

For this partial look though, seeing as the hardware on my pants was silver, I wanted to add some warmth with gold and mix metals. I opted for these Madewell Chunky Large Gold Hoop Earrings. These beauties were a cool $25! I know ya’ll are excited as I am about that! To find them, I searched Chucky Hoop Earrings on Nordstrom’s site and a plethora of choices were given to me to choose from! This look can be worn during the day or night. To switch it up for a night out, add a chunky heel like these Steve Madden ones and statement earring like these Lotus Imitation Pearl Earrings.

Well that’s all for this round-up! I hope to do this again in the near future. If you’re like me and balling on a budget, Nordstrom is your go to! Check out their website and make sure you sign up for the Nordy Club! I promise – you will not be disappointed.
